It's being called the turning point in digital music history – the point that music companies resisted and music geeks predicted would come anyway. The point where the music industry gives way to technology. For years now, companies have, for the most part, been resisting this technology – in the form of downloads, MP3s, and movement to online platforms. In some cases, they've seen CD sales drop, they've gone after download communities, and have been hesitant to make music on their label available online.
